UNtangling the Waiver Wire | Week 13

Derek Carr. I had him as a plug-and-play addition last week. He was playing against the defense that gives up the most points to the quarterback position, and he has been playing well. So this seemed like sound advice. I want you to know I am sorry, I am so sorry. I also played him myself in a few leagues and as I write this, I am reliving the pain, oh the pain. It feels like an infected tooth; if you know what that feels like, you get it. I just want to run down the street screaming.

I don’t think Derek was very happy with himself as well.

Now that you know I too have felt your pain, let’s get on to who we should look to add this week.

NOTE: If you are new around here, this column refers to players rostered in under 50% of Yahoo, ESPN, and Sleeper Leagues.

    Quarterbacks

Kirk Cousins – Over 300 yards and 3 touchdowns in each of the last two games. Next up is the third worst defense against the quarterback position, the Jaguars. You might feel like its late at night, you’re drunk and you were hoping to hook up if you add him; but he will be worth it this week. 40% rostered on Yahoo, 20% rostered on ESPN, and 39% rostered on Sleeper. (10% FAAB)

Ryan Fitzpatrick – The Magic is back. As much as Carr made me unhappy, having Fitzmagic back and in a couple of lineups made me very happy. He gave a solid performance of 257 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Bengals are up next.  20% rostered on Yahoo, 21% rostered on ESPN, and 31% rostered on Sleeper. (10% FAAB)

Philip Rivers – In the last three games, Rivers has had either 300 yards passing or multiple touchdowns. He is utilizing his receivers. The Texans and the Raiders are the next two opponents, and neither is tough on the passing game. 33% rostered on Yahoo, 13% rostered on ESPN, and 33% rostered on Sleeper. (5% FAAB)

Other Quarterbacks to consider: Baker Mayfield

    Running Backs

Latavius Murray – With Taysom Hill at the helm of the Saints offense, Murray has become more involved. In Week 12 Murray had 19 carries for 124 yards and 2 touchdowns. Between the change in offense game plan and Alvin Kamara’s foot issue, I would make Murray the number one addition if available. 60% rostered on Yahoo, 46% on ESPN, and 66% on Sleeper. (20% FAAB)

NOTE: I know he has high ownership, but apparently people playing on ESPN need to read this.

Devontae Booker – Booker has been involved, vulturing a touchdown here and there and sometimes in the passing game. Well, Jacobs tweaked his ankle in Week 12. The Jets are up in Week 13. Yes, I am saying add Booker in a tasty matchup, if it looks like he’ll be starting. 10% rostered on Yahoo, 5% on ESPN, and 15% rostered on Sleeper. (10% FAAB)

Cam Akers – The Rams said they were going to get Akers more involved and they did. He has a touchdown in each of the last two games and rushed 9 times for 84 yards in Week 12. 30% rostered on Yahoo, 27% on ESPN, and 32% rostered on Sleeper. (12% FAAB)

Other running backs to consider: Benny Snell, Alexander Mattison, and Frank Gore.

    Wide Receivers

Keke Coutee – Will Fuller is suspended, Randall Cobb is hurt, and Kenny Stills is gone. That leaves Brandin Cooks and Keke Coutee as starting wide receivers for the Texans. Coutee has produced in the past when called upon and Deshaun Watson will be throwing the ball. He is back from the grave. 2% rostered on Yahoo, 0% on ESPN, and 2% rostered on Sleeper. (8% FAAB)

Denzel Mims – Mims has been targeted an average of 8 times over the last 3 games. He also has over 60 yards in each of those games. It appears Mims is emerging, and now would be the time to make the addition. 7% rostered on Yahoo, 4% on ESPN, 19% on Sleeper. (5% FAAB)

Sammy Watkins – OK, I can’t believe I am saying to add Sammy Watkins. If you are in need, he does tend to produce when healthy for the Chiefs the past two seasons. He was targeted 7 times in Week 12, and that is what you can expect weekly the rest f the way.  High powered offense, decent target share. 44% rostered on Yahoo, 34% on ESPN, and 58% rostered on Sleeper. (8% FAAB)

Other wide receivers to consider: Allen Lazard and Nelson Agholor.

    Tight Ends

Logan Thomas – The schedule is tough the rest of the way with the Steelers up next, but Thomas is involved in the passing game heavily for the Washington Football Team. At this point in the season, beggars can’t be choosers if you need a tight end. 41% rostered on Yahoo, 24% on ESPN, and 45% rostered on Sleeper. (4% FAAB)

Jordan Reed – Reed had 6 targets in Week 12, but he didn’t do much with them. The Bills are not very good against the tight end position and they are up next. If you are streaming tight end, Reed is a nice option in Week 13. 25% rostered on Yahoo, 14% on ESPN, and 39% rostered on Sleeper. (2% FAAB)

Other tight ends to consider: Trey Burton
