UNtangling the Waiver Wire | Week 8

As you hit my intro this week, you might be thinking “he didn’t add a song”.  I needed to switch it up to keep my creative juice’s flowing.  It also will keep all of you on your toes.

Before we dive into waiver wire adds for this week, I am going to ask you all to go out and do something good for someone else.  Hold a door, let someone cross the street in front of you.  Do that thing where you pay for the coffee of the person behind you in line at the drive through.  Essentially anything.  Get out there, smile at the world and be kind to someone, anyone.  Do me that little favor before Week 8.  I am positive you will feel better about yourself by making someone else’s day.

    Thank you!

NOTE: This column refers to players rostered in under 50% of Yahoo leagues and ESPN Leagues.

    Quarterbacks

Derek Carr – Carr has passed for at least 1 touchdown in each game this season and has multiple touchdowns in 5 straight games.  In Week 7 Carr went against a very tough Tampa Bay defense and threw for 284 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Carr has a very nice rest of season schedule in which he draws the Chargers twice and the Falcons once. If you have been hit with losing Dak Prescott then Car will be a nice fill in. 29% rostered in Yahoo, 25% in ESPN, 90% on Sleeper (10% FAAB).

Teddy Bridgewater – In Week 5 Bridgewater threw for 313 yards and 3 touchdowns against the Falcons. The worst defense against the quarterback position after 7 weeks is the Atlanta Falcons.  In Week 8 Teddy gets to play the Falcons again.  This is pretty easy if you are streaming or needy at quarterback. 44% rostered in Yahoo, 30% in ESPN, 94% on Sleeper. (10% FAAB)

Baker Mayfield – Mayfield had an amazing Week 7 against the Bengals passing for 5 touchdowns and 297 yards.  6 players had 3 or more targets from Baker in this game.  Four different players caught touchdowns. Losing Odell Beckham is something that looked like it would be devastating to this team but appears to have been liberating to the passing offense. (4% FAAB)

Other Quarterbacks to consider: Kirk Cousins and Tua Tagovailoa.

    Running Backs

Carlos Hyde – In Week 7 Chris Carson sprained his foot and will possibly miss some time. That brought Hyde to the forefront of the Seahawks rushing attack.  Hyde averaged 4.5 YPC for 68 yards and a touchdown, with 18 total touches in Week 8.  Hyde projects to be a RB2 Week 9 against the Niners.  12% rostered in Yahoo, 5% in ESPN, 72% in Sleeper. (10% FAAB)

JaMycal Hasty – I mentioned hasty as someone to consider last week.  In Week 7, the Niners lost another running back ahead of Hasty, and Hasty responded by averaging 5.2 yards per carry for 57 yards.  He may be the last man standing for the Niners in Week 8.  21% rostered in Yahoo, 3% in ESPN, 78% in Sleeper.   (4% FAAB)

Damien Harris –  Averaging 5 yards per carry for the Patriots this season, it’s only a matter of time before Harris has an uptick in carries. Harris had 11 touches for a total of 70 yards in Week 7. He is clearly the best option for success that the Patriots have on offense right now. 47% rostered in Yahoo, 28% in ESPN, 97% in Sleeper. (5% FAAB)

Other running backs to consider: Gus Edwards, Wayne Gallman, La’Mical Perine, and Joshua Kelley.

NOTE: If available, Chase Edmonds is the top pick up at running back. He is rostered in 63% of yahoo leagues.

    Wide Receivers

Rashard Higgins – In the last three weeks, Higgins has had at least a touchdown or 100 yards.  With Odell Beckham out for the season with a knee injury, Higgins becomes an every-down player for the Browns. He saw 6 targets after Beckham’s injury on Sunday.  Higgins made the most of these targets with 6 receptions for 110 yards. 3% rostered in Yahoo, 0% rostered in ESPN, 23% in Sleeper.  (5% of FAAB)

Christian Kirk –  Yes, he was a money maker for Week 6 and again in Week 7.  Kirk had 2 touchdowns in Week 6 and followed it up again with 2 touchdowns in Week 7. On a bye this coming week, he is still worth an add if you are in need of a good wide receiver for the rest of the season. 55% rostered in Yahoo, 48% in ESPN, 99% in Sleeper. (10% FAAB)

Cole Beasley – Beasley only has one game with less than 6 targets on the season.  In Week 7 Beasley was targeted 12 times and had 11 receptions for 112 yards. If Beasley continues on this pace he is looking at a 90 reception season.  So, if you are playing PPR and he is available, I would make the add. 41% rostered in Yahoo, 41% in ESPN, 92% in Sleeper. (8% FAAB)

Brandon Aiyuk – In Week 7 Aiyuk had 6 receptions for 115 yards. Deebo Samuel left with an injury, which makes Aiyuk the #1 WR for the Niners. The friendliest defense to wide receivers is up in Week 9, the Seattle Seahawks.  Aiyuk is looking at perhaps his biggest week as a pro in Week 9. 49% rostered in Yahoo, 20% in ESPN, 99% in Sleeper. (8% FAAB)

Marquez Callaway – Callaway is a name you may or may not know.  The last two weeks of play for the Saints, Callaway has seen 16 targets for 12 receptions and 109 yards. If Michael Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders miss more time it looks like Callaway will continue to grow his role in the Saints offense.  1% rostered in Yahoo, 0% in ESPN, 38% in Sleeper.

Other wide receivers to consider: Sterling Shepard, Nelson Agholor, Tim Patrick, and Corey Davis.

NOTE: Ruggs rostered in 51% of Yahoo leagues and is someone if available I would prioritize as an add as well.

    Tight Ends

Dallas Goedert – Goedert came off of IR last week.  Ertz is out for 3-4 weeks. The Eagles need help with all of their injuries as DeSean Jackson is now added to the list again.  Goedert saw 17 targets in the first two games prior to his injury.  He is the top add at tight end if you are needy, and many of us are. 47% rostered in Yahoo, 28% in ESPN, 98% in Sleeper. (10% FAAB)

Trey Burton – Burton rushed for a touchdown and caught 4 passes for 58 yards and another touchdown against the Bengals in Week 6.  As I mentioned last week, here in this column. He is still only 21% rostered in Yahoo, 6% in ESPN, 80% rostered in Sleeper. (5% FAAB)

Other tight ends to consider: Logan Thomas and Eric Ebron
